Artist Development Tip #3: How to Set a S.M.A.R.T. Goal

Most people are unaware that it is recommended that before you even set your goals for the New Year it's important to look back at the previous year and celebrate your accomplishments. This will give you fuel to stay positive this year and the right kind of mindset. Write down at least three things you accomplished last year that you are proud of in your CORE Vocal Power journal. Celebrating your victories is a very important aspect of building vocal confidence.

Next, if you have a New Year's resolution or goal make sure it's "S.M.A.R.T." for the best results & success. In my latest video I explain how to make your goal S.M.A.R.T. so you can achieve your best voice ever, this year!

Keep your intentions in mind too. I tell my singers,  it's not just what you do that counts, but HOW you do it. For instance, maybe you have a goal to record an album this year, but if your daily interactions while recording this album are highly stressful and feel forced or unnatural, then your art may suffer as a result. Your mental and emotional quality is just as important as getting the task done. LIke they say, "Happiness is a journey, not a destination."  So please, don't be fooled into thinking that you will be happy when you finish your goal, if you are miserable along the way.

Taking that into consideration, l'd like to share my favorite formula for making your goals a reality.

What is a S.M.A.R.T. Goal?

S: Specific

M: Measurable

A: Achievable

R: Relevant

T: Time-Specific
